Nestled just 4 miles east of Fraserburgh, Scotland, Inverallochy and Cairnbulg were once home to three vibrant fishing villages, with the ghostly remnants of Brandesburgh now lost to time. Cairnbulg Castle, a fortress dating back to the 13th century, stood proudly as a bastion of the Comyns before passing into the hands of the Earls of Ross and the Frasers.
The Cairnbulg railway station opened its gates in 1903 but bid farewell in 1965. Locally, the term "Invercairn" unites both villages in harmonious identity. Enchanting attractions beckon, including Maggie's Hoosie, a lovingly preserved fishwife's cottage, the picturesque Cairnbulg harbour, and Inverallochy School, which was founded in 1841 and has blossomed over the years. The Gothic parish church, constructed in 1842, boasts an eye-catching octagonal spirelet, standing as a testament to the village's rich heritage.
